Hundreds of women, children and men in Kenya suffer unspeakable horrors of gender-based violence (GBV) on a daily basis. All individuals have the right to be protected by fundamental human rights. Together with our partners and donors, we work tirelessly to make sure that these rights become a reality.
Since 2011, KWCWC, together with USAID, has facilitated a public awareness campaign and national policies to help reduce the gender-based violence cases in the community. The outreach project focuses on sensitizing the community, creating awareness, and training the community on GBV prevention, response and referrals. The program has reached teachers and schools; community and faith based organizations; youth and health workers; provincial administrative leaders and paralegals.
The implementation activities are geared towards behavior change in order to entrench a culture which respects the sanctity and dignity of human beings - irrespective of gender. The primary goals of the project are to improve the wellness of Kasarani community through the reduction of GBV. Its main objectives include:
- Educating the community, healthcare providers and the police about appropriate responses to incidences of GBV and prevention methods;
- Reducing the prevalence and incidences of GBV in the program area; and
- Increasing the number of health care workers trained to identify, care for, and refer victims of GBV.
To date, KWCWC has trained and reached over 13,656 children and 18,086 adults in Nairobi, Kenya. Once the KWCWC facility is constructed, we expect to grow our outreach and care abilities.
